ANOTHER COUNTRY

I’ve travelled this far

to find you’ve moved to

another country

I’m calling

across canyons

and valleys, mountain ridges

and the wide expanses

of the Abruzzi

and you are not here

but far away

pondering the dregs

of your glass

asking the padrone

for another

rolling your dubious cigarettes

your ear open

to demons

in a place too far

to reach

though we shout loud enough.
